Family informationWhen a patient is taken to the operating room or pre-op holding area, family members are asked to wait in the surgical waiting room, located on the second floor of the hospital. When you arrive in the waiting room, tell the nurse or volunteer at the desk your name and the name of the patient you are with. By giving this information, the waiting room staff will be able to communicate any surgical updates to you. If you need to leave the waiting room while the patient is in surgery, please notify the person at the desk of your departure and when you return. After surgery, the patient may be moved to the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) for recovery. A nurse will contact the waiting room to let you know when the patient will be transferred to his or her room or to the Same Day Surgery Center. Write down any questions you want to ask the doctor when he or she talks with your family member or friend after surgery. Helpful questions to ask include:
The doctor will talk with family members (only) after surgery. Due to anesthesia, the patient may not remember what was said. |
